1970s Hutschenreuther West Germany ‘Vulkan-Feuer’ Lava Glaze Vase
Striking 1970s Hutschenreuther ‘Vulkan-Feuer’ lave glaze vase.
Made in Bavaria, Germany, stoneware vase features a rounded body on a pedestal foot, tall flared neck and twin ring handles – a modernist reworking of a classical amphora form. The thick flowing glaze band evokes molten lava, in vivid volcanic orange‑red cascading over darker greens, blues and purples.
The base carries the impressed Hutschenreuther lion medallion with “1814”, used on the company’s post‑war art pottery lines. Pieces from this period bridge West German lava ware and high‑quality Bavarian ceramics, making them ideal for collectors and Mid‑Century interiors alike.

Historical Context
Historical Context
This vase was produced by Lorenz Hutschenreuther, a prestigious German porcelain manufacturer based in Selb, Bavaria. Founded in 1814 (as the mark on the base indicates), Hutschenreuther is primarily famous for high-quality fine china and figurines. However, during the post-war "Wirtschaftswunder" (economic miracle) boom, specifically in the 1960s and 1970s, the company branched out into art pottery to compete with the booming West German ceramic industry.
