Late Victorian Cast Iron Lion Rampant Doorstop
A superb sand‑cast iron doorstop modelled as a lion rampant on a scrolled plinth—an enduring heraldic motif of the late Victorian period. Strong, well‑detailed casting with lively mane and architectural base. The reverse shows the typical rough sand-cast finish; the surface retains an attractive time‑worn patina now lightly waxed for protection.
Unmarked, as many period examples are, but consistent with British foundry work of the late 19th century. A handsome, weighty piece for a hallway, library or hearth—and a fine gift for anyone with Scottish or heraldic ties.
Dimensions: Height 38 cm
Condition: Age-related wear and minor oxidation; no cracks or repairs. Conserved and ready to use.
Origin: Unmarked; the pattern and sand-cast back are typical of British foundries of the period (e.g., Coalbrookdale/Carron/Saracen), but without a mark the exact foundry can’t be proved.
