A vibrant matched pair of late‑20th‑century Chinese famille rose porcelain vases, each raised on a separate plinth base and richly enamelled in the Rose Medallion manner.

The baluster‑shaped vases have square flared mouths and gilded animal‑mask ring handles. All four sides are meticulously painted: two panels with elegant court ladies and attendants in garden and interior settings, the others with overflowing bouquets of peonies and songbirds framed by scrolling foliage. The plinths are decorated en suite, creating a striking, cohesive display.

These pieces echo the opulent export porcelains of the Qing dynasty while offering the practicality and robustness of modern manufacture. At 35cm high, they make impressive statement pieces for a mantle, console or sideboard, and work beautifully in chinoiserie‑inspired or maximalist interiors.

Condition: Very good vintage condition. Enamels bright and largely unworn. Minor rubbing to gilded rims and handles and light surface marks consistent with age; no obvious chips or cracks visible. Please see photographs.

Time Period: c. 1970–1990

Historical Context

The palette, style and printed reign marks point to late 20th century (c. 1970–1990), likely made at Jingdezhen or in the Canton region for the export and decorator market. They imitate 19th‑century Qing famille rose and Rose Medallion vases but are not antique.

Such pieces were commonly produced in China for sale through Western importers, department stores and antique/decorator shops.
