Historical Context
Historical Context
Delftware began in the 17th century in Delft, when Dutch potters imitated fashionable Chinese porcelain using tināglazed earthenware.
By the 18th century, potters introduced polychrome decoration, adding iron red, yellow and green to the traditional cobalt blue.
After most original factories closed in the 19th century, a few firms (Royal Delft / De Porceleyne Fles, Zenith, Goedewaagen, etc.) kept the tradition alive.
This jar belongs to the midā20thācentury revival period, when Dutch potteries produced bright, decorative Delftware for tourists and export while reworking historic floral patterns.
